- The Arabic source tradition behind the Western Goetia — 211 pages that predate most European spirit-summoning literature.

## Al-Jawahir al-Lammaa: An Arabic Jinn Summoning Book

The Arabic title, الجواهر اللماعة — “the radiant jewels” — appears in English as *al-Jawahir al-Lamma’a* or *al-Jawahir al-Lammaa*, and, from the closely related form *lami’a* (“shining”), as *al Jawahir al Lami’a*. The manuscript attributes the work to Ali Abu Hayy Allah al-Marzuqi (c. 15th century), and the edition’s subtitle calls it a manual of talismanic jewels and their fabrication. In practice it is a complete jinn summoning book: it moves from planetary correspondences and incense formulas, through the science of letters and the construction of magic squares, to Qur’anic compositions, oaths, and adjurations for calling the kings of the jinn. Its invocations are printed in English, in transliteration, and in the original Arabic script.

### The Seven Kings and Their Days

The manual states that the greatest of the spirits are the seven kings of the jinn, “each associated with one of the seven days and one of the seven planets.” Its oath attributed to the Prophet Sulayman calls on them by day, from the king of Sunday (the Sun) to the king of Saturday (Saturn), and a table of the days assigns a spiritual being and a cardinal direction to each: Shamhurash on Sunday and Thursday, Murra on Monday, al-Ahmar on Tuesday, Barqan on Wednesday, Zawba’a on Friday, and Maymun on Saturday. Names and assignments vary from one manuscript to the next, and even between this book’s own tables; our essay on [the seven jinn kings, their weekdays, and their planetary hours](https://johnfriendpublishing.com/articles/right-hour-summon-each-king-jinn-jawahir-lammaa.html) sets this book’s timing beside the wider tradition, and the companion volume [*The Complete Magic of the Jinn Kings*](https://johnfriendpublishing.com/books/arabic-islamicate-occult-manuscripts/the-complete-magic-of-the-jinn-kings.html) is devoted to the jinn kings themselves.

### How the Manual Summons the Jinn Kings

Readers asking how the seven kings of jinn are summoned will find that this book’s answer is an ordered procedure rather than a single spell. God is invoked first by His greatest names, then the angels by theirs; the jinn kings are then commanded by name, the purpose is stated, and a binding oath compels obedience. The text supplies a comprehensive invocation for summoning the jinn kings, a form of address for when a king appears, a sealing formula that must close every operation, and a covenant that is renewed — typically every seven days or every lunar month. Its conditions for employing spiritual servants include a forty-day spiritual retreat with daily fasting. For this procedure set beside the names and planets recorded across the Arabic grimoires, see [how to summon a jinn: the seven kings of the jinn](https://johnfriendpublishing.com/articles/how-to-summon-seven-kings-of-jinn.html).

### Planetary Hours, Magic Squares, and the Venus Square

The practical system opens with the planetary hours, counted from sunrise by day and from sunset by night in the Chaldean order — Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. The book’s second purpose is the construction of magic squares: each planet has its own square and its own uses, and the Venus square serves love, beauty, and harmony. The seventh square in the sequence is the Venus magic square, 7x7, with a basis of 175; it is written in the planetary hour of Venus on a Friday and fumigated with the incense of Venus — coriander, galangal, and musk. A step-by-step reading of that talisman is in our essay on [the Venus magic square](https://johnfriendpublishing.com/articles/venus-magic-square-love-harmony-talisman.html). Later chapters add invocations for each station of the Moon, a comprehensive table of the Beautiful Names of God with their numerical values, and compositions built on the Verse of the Throne and Surat al-A’la.

### The Radiant Jewels and the Picatrix

Anyone who knows the Picatrix — the Latin version of the Arabic *Ghayat al-Hakim* — will recognize much here: the planetary hours, the incense of each planet, the stations of the Moon. The Radiant Jewels is not the Picatrix’s source. It is a later Arabic grimoire that keeps the same astral-magic system in working form, with the jinn-king hierarchy, the lunar-station invocations, and the letter science laid out operation by operation. We set the two side by side in [Ghayat al-Hakim, the Arabic original of the Picatrix](https://johnfriendpublishing.com/articles/picatrix-ghayat-al-hakim-arabic-original.html).

## Questions About al-Jawahir al-Lammaa

### What is al-Jawahir al-Lammaa?

*Al-Jawahir al-Lamma’a* (“The Radiant Jewels”) is an Arabic manual of talismans, magic squares, letter science, and jinn-king conjuration attributed to Ali Abu Hayy Allah al-Marzuqi (c. 15th century). This edition is its first English translation, 211 pages, with the invocations given in English, transliteration, and Arabic.

### Is the Radiant Jewels a jinn summoning book?

Yes. Alongside its talismans and magic squares it contains a comprehensive invocation for summoning the jinn kings, the Great Oath of Summoning, an oath attributed to the Prophet Sulayman, and instructions for addressing, binding, and dismissing a king. Every operation is framed by the divine names and conditions of ritual purity, and the text insists that each one be sealed afterward.

### Which jinn kings does it assign to the seven weekdays?

The manual ties the seven kings of the jinn to the seven days and the seven planets. Its table of the days names Shamhurash (Sunday and Thursday), Murra (Monday), al-Ahmar (Tuesday), Barqan (Wednesday), Zawba’a (Friday), and Maymun (Saturday), each with a cardinal direction. Spellings and assignments differ between manuscripts, and even between this book’s own tables.

### Is al-Jawahir al-Lammaa the same as the Picatrix (Ghayat al-Hakim)?

No. The Picatrix is the Latin version of the Arabic *Ghayat al-Hakim*; the Radiant Jewels is a separate, later Arabic grimoire. They share the astral-magic framework of planetary hours, planetary incense, and the stations of the Moon, but the Radiant Jewels is a working manual of jinn-king conjuration, which the *Ghayat al-Hakim* primarily is not.

### Does the book include the 7x7 Venus magic square?

Yes. The seventh of its planetary squares is the 7x7 Venus square with a basis of 175, written in the hour of Venus on a Friday and fumigated with coriander, galangal, and musk. The manual prescribes it for love, beauty, harmony, and the attraction of good fortune.

### Where can I read al-Jawahir al-Lammaa in English?

The first English translation is published by John Friend Publishing and sold on Amazon in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions. The Kindle edition is free to read with Kindle Unlimited.
